Markdown task manager for personal work

Keep tasks beside the notes that explain them.

Ariv turns the Markdown checkboxes you mark as tasks into focused task views and Kanban boards without moving your work into a proprietary cloud database or making you assemble a plugin stack.

Tasks need context

A task list should not make you reconstruct the work.

A title like “Review launch page” is useful only if the research, decisions and draft are still nearby. Ariv keeps the action inside the note, then adds focused views for execution.

01 / Capture

Turn any thought into an action

Write a Markdown checkbox in a meeting note, project brief or daily note. Add @task, priority or due-date metadata to track that line, or set tasks: auto once in a note where every checkbox is a task.

02 / Focus

Gather the work without losing its source

Ariv indexes tracked tasks across the vault and keeps the source note attached, so you can move from the list back into the full context.

03 / Finish

Check it off from either place

Complete a tracked note task from the note, dashboard or task view. Ariv writes the status back to the Markdown checkbox.

Markdown is the source

The task starts as text you can read anywhere.

On desktop, a tracked task inside a note uses its checklist line as the durable source for existence, status and metadata. Its @task marker gives the task a stable identity. Ariv builds useful task behavior around that line.

  • Opt individual checkboxes into tracking, or auto-track every checkbox in a chosen note.
  • Mark work in progress without removing it from the note.
  • Add priority, due dates and tags when a task needs more structure.
  • Open the source file in Ariv or another Markdown editor.

Purpose-built views

Work the list, scan the day or move the board.

The same Markdown tasks can serve different moments without being duplicated into different systems.

01 / Task index

Review tracked tasks in one place

Review open and in-progress work across Today, Upcoming, Inbox and All, sort by priority, due date or creation time, and visit completed or archived history. Tasks from notes link back to their source.

02 / Dashboard

See what needs attention now

Open Ariv to a calm view of current notes, inbox captures and active tasks instead of rebuilding your plan each morning.

03 / Kanban

Give task-heavy work a board

Switch a task-heavy note into Kanban, or create a standalone Markdown-backed project board when columns make progress easier to see.

A task workflow that survives the day

Capture quickly. Add structure only when it helps.

Ariv gives personal work a clear path from a fleeting thought to a finished action, without demanding that every task become a project-management record.

01 / Capture

Put it in the inbox

Use Task Quick Capture from anywhere on desktop to add a task to Ariv's local task inbox before the thought disappears.

02 / Shape

Add what the task needs

Set priority, due date or tags for work that needs a clearer place in the day. Leave simple tasks simple.

03 / Return

Go back to the source note

For tasks tracked inside notes, jump from the task view to the original line when you need the decisions, research or meeting context around it.

Common questions

About managing tasks in Markdown

Which Ariv tasks are stored in Markdown?
A tracked task inside a note lives as a checklist line in that Markdown file. Ariv writes status and metadata changes back to the line. Tasks created with Task Quick Capture live in Ariv's local task inbox instead.
Can Ariv use tasks from an existing Obsidian vault?
Yes. On desktop, Ariv opens an existing folder without importing or converting it. To include a checkbox in global task views, add @task, add supported priority or due-date metadata, or set tasks: auto in that note's frontmatter.
Does Markdown task management work offline?
Yes. Core notes, tracked tasks, search, dashboards and Kanban work locally without an account or sync setup. Managed sync is optional for device-to-device use.
Do I need plugins to manage Markdown tasks in Ariv?
No. The task index, dashboard, Quick Capture, daily notes and Kanban views ship as parts of Ariv.
Can I use Ariv tasks on Android?
Yes. The Android companion includes access to notes, tasks, captures and attachments. Desktop remains the full vault workspace.
Is Ariv a team project-management tool?
No. Ariv is designed for personal tasks, notes and projects. It does not provide assignments, team permissions or real-time collaborative project management.
